Taco Bell was founded in 1962 in Downey, California by Glen Bell a former Marine who had operated a chain of Tex-Mex fast food restaurants in the southern California area starting with his first store that opened in 1946.
In the past few years they have promoted the “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” which gives away free tacos to everyone in the US if a player steals a base during the World Series. They replaced McDonald’s as the food partner to the NBA in 2009. They also bought the naming rights to the Boise, Idaho arena.
To work at Taco Bell employees must be sixteen years old to work for the company. For corporate employees, the company offers three weeks paid vacation, a company-matching 401k plan, the Glen Bell Scholarship Program, and during holidays and summer hours employees have Half-day Fridays.
As a worker in a restaurant, benefits are much more limited with discounts on food, some sick leave and basic health coverage. Better benefits, yet still limited, are available to store managers. They are a part of several charitable programs.
